Privacy Policy

R. M. Burgess ("we," "our," or "us") operates the LedgerCast application (the "App"), available on iOS and the web. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address — Used for account authentication and for receiving ledger invitations

You can sign in using any of the following methods:

• Email OTP — passwordless sign-in via a one-time code sent to your email
• Google Sign-In
• Apple Sign-In
• Facebook Login

No password is stored or required.

Google User Data

When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from Google solely for account authentication. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond authenticating your account. We do not sell, share, or transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to operate the service (Supabase for secure storage, Resend for transactional email delivery).

Apple Sign-In Data

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address (or an Apple-provided private relay email) solely for account authentication. We do not use Apple Sign-In data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond authenticating your account. We do not sell, share, or transfer Apple Sign-In data to third parties except as necessary to operate the service (Supabase for secure storage, Resend for transactional email delivery). If you choose to hide your email, Apple provides a private relay address — we treat this the same as any other email and use it only for authentication and transactional messages (e.g., sign-in codes).

Facebook Login Data

When you sign in with Facebook, we receive your email address solely for account authentication. We do not use Facebook Login data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond authenticating your account. We do not sell, share, or transfer Facebook Login data to third parties except as necessary to operate the service (Supabase for secure storage, Resend for transactional email delivery). If you disconnect our app from Facebook or if Facebook disables our access, we will delete all data received from Facebook associated with your account upon request.

Financial Planning Data

To provide the App's forecasting features, we store the following data you enter:

• Starting balance and warning threshold amounts
• Paycheck amounts, frequencies, and start dates
• Bill names, amounts, frequencies, and due dates
• One-time income and expense entries
• Records of entries marked as paid or archived
• Manual amount overrides
• Spending amount per paycheck

Collaboration Data

When you use the App's sharing features, we store:

• Ledger membership records (which users belong to which ledgers)
• User roles within shared ledgers (owner, editor, viewer)
• Invitation records (email invitations and invite codes)

Device Information

We store your theme preference (light, dark, or system) and last-used ledger selection locally on your device using standard device storage. This data never leaves your device.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

• Passwords (we use passwordless authentication)
• Bank account numbers or financial institution credentials
• Credit card or payment information
• Social Security numbers or government IDs
• Location data
• Contact lists or personal contacts
• Usage analytics or behavioral tracking data

Advertising

The App displays ads provided by Google AdMob on iOS. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve ads in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalized ads through your device's privacy settings. A one-time in-app purchase is available to permanently remove ads.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

• Authenticate your account via one-time login codes
• Store and display your financial planning data
• Generate your 5-year financial forecast
• Facilitate ledger sharing and collaboration between users
• Send invitation emails when you invite others to shared ledgers

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted backend-as-a-service provider. All data is:

• Encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL
• Encrypted at rest
• Protected by row-level security policies — users can only access ledgers they are members of
• Hosted on secure cloud infrastructure

Data Sharing Between Users

When you share a ledger with another user:

• All members of that ledger can see the ledger's financial data (balances, bills, paychecks, entries)
• Your email address is visible to other members of shared ledgers
• Editors and owners can modify shared ledger data
• You can leave a shared ledger at any time, which removes your access

Third-Party Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data may only be shared:

• With Supabase, our backend provider, solely to operate the App
• With Resend, our email provider, solely to deliver login codes and invitation emails
• With Google AdMob, our advertising provider, to display ads within the iOS app
• If required by law or legal process
• To protect our rights or the safety of users

Your Rights and Controls

You have full control over your data within the App:

• Export: You can export all your data as a JSON file at any time from the Settings screen
• Delete: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Settings screen. This deletes your R. M. Burgess account and all associated data, including your authentication record.
• Leave: You can leave any shared ledger at any time
• Access: All your data is visible within the App

Depending on your location, you may also have the following rights regarding your personal data, including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws:

• Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data
• Erasure — Request deletion of your data (you can also delete your account from any R. M. Burgess app)
• Data portability — Request an export of your data in a portable format
• Restrict processing — Request that we limit how we use your data
• Object to processing — Object to our processing of your data
• Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time

If you are in the European Economic Area and believe we have not adequately addressed your concerns, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

• All your financial planning data is permanently deleted
• Your membership in shared ledgers is removed
• Ledgers you own are deleted along with all their data
• All data from any other R. M. Burgess apps using this account is also permanently deleted
• Your authentication record (email and user ID) is permanently deleted
• Deletion is immediate and irreversible

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

International Users

Your data may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
